Ever wondered if there are grants or loans available to remove asbestos, lead paint, or other hazards from your home or property? The answer is yes, provided you meet the requirements.
Though this list is not all-inclusive, we’d like to share a few avenues for loans and grants that are available to assist people with their asbestos and other hazards abatement.
The Very-Low Income Housing Repair Program provides grants and loans for repairs, improvements, modernizations, and to remove safety and health hazards from properties. The grants (not loans) may only be used to remove safety or health hazards, and they apply only to homeowners 62 years old and older who cannot afford to repay a section 504 loan.
The Housing Preservation Program provides grants and financial assistance for the rehab and repair of low- and very low-income housing. The grants are available to sponsoring agencies such as state agencies, local government units, Native American Tribes, and non-profit organizations. Funds are then used as loans, grants or subsidies to assist with said improvements.
